A definition of Self Care:

The gentle, kind and consistent invitation to lovingly care for your body with awareness, intention and appreciation.

Self Care builds on itself and strengthens the mind body connection.

What Self Care is not, it is not a quick fix to our issues. If you’ve had a recent injury, surgery, illness or have current health issues, it always important to consult your health care provider with changes in your routine.

Why do we need Self Care?

A major reason is the recent evolution of our society. The Human time line –

  • Homo Sapiens, Hunter Gatherers – over 200,000 years ago

  • Agriculture was developed – 12,000 years ago

  • The Industrial Revolution (1760-1840) - 200 years ago

  • The Internet was developed (1983-1990) Internet publicly available in 1991

The ratio of time in comparison to pages in a book: Hunter/Gatherer - A 2,000 page book. Of that 2,000 pages Agriculture came into the story with about 120 pages left. The Industrial Revolution showed up for the last 2 pages. Technology and the Internet made their debut in the final 2 paragraphs of this amazing book.

Some of the Causes:

Computers and Electronics, Driving, Sitting, STRESS, Sedentary lifestyle, Repetitive Movements, Poor Posture…. What has been the Effect? Technology has created many problems in our body:

  • Sitting is the new smoking – Hip Flexors

  • Forward Head Posture - Every inch forward adds 10 lbs of stress on your body.

  • Rounded Shoulders – Chronically contracted Pecs and elongated Trapezius

Let’s start with some basics:

  • We can survive Weeks without Food

  • Days without Water

  • Hours in Freezing Temperatures

  • But only Minutes without Air
